About Minehead |
Minehead is a wonderful little town with a very pleasant high street, unspoilt by the sort of "Kiss me quick" shops you get at many seaside places. There are some very nice places to eat and drink. Some of our favourites are below. |

The Hairy Dog is our favourite pub in Minehead - it's on The Avenue, the main road of the town centre and it's great for Adults and Kids alike. They have a huge play area in the back garden which is great for burning off some steam and some lovely decking areas for the adults to use. Inside there's a nice conservatory and a more traditional bar area showing sport on the Big Screen. The food is pretty good too with a fairly typical pub grub selection |
Pinocchio's is a cracking little Italian restaurant on Holloway Street, just off The Avenue at the top end of town. We ate here in May and all the main courses were just £5 and everything the four of us had couldn't be faulted. I'm not sure if the £5 offer will still be going when the Summer season starts, but even if the prices went up, I'd still have no hesitation in recommending it |
Some of the people who stayed with us in 2009 have commented that the foot on the Butlins site itself isn't up to much. We've not eaten there too often, preferring to cook our own of go out into town. A couple of times we've used the Sun and Moon and also Pizza Hut and not found them to be too bad. In our visitors book, people have recommended Mullions and the Carvery in the Hotel next to West Somerset Steam Railway. I'd also like to recommend The York on The Avenue - we had Christmas dinner here and it was superb. The Weatherspoons right at the top of the town, just on the square is pretty good too. |
